Project Description:
The Mathematical and Statistical Sciences Annual Survey collects data from departments in the mathematical sciences at four-year colleges and universities in the U.S. Much of the survey data is trapped in a database called FileMakerPro, which is being discontinued at AMS. During AY 2024-25, Purdue Data Mine students took survey data from 2010-2015 into a modern database and built a prototype of a public-facing dashboard so people can explore trends and answer their pressing questions about mathematicians’ salaries, PhDs, and more! We want to continue this project so that all data is exported and the dashboard is finalized.
Currently the Annual Survey data is viewable only through PDFs, available on our website here: https://www.ams.org/profession/data/annual-survey
Using the source data we want to create a more interactive user-interface for our membership and the worldwide community.
