QSTEPS AI-Enablement Project

Johnson & Johnson

West Lafayette, IN

Overview of QSTEPS QSTEPS (Quantitative Sciences Technical Excellence and Program Review) is an integrated, cross-functional forum led by Statistics & Decision Sciences (SDS) and Clinical Pharmacology & Pharmacometrics (CPP). It promotes consistent, high-quality study-, program-, and portfolio-level support in collaboration with Therapeutic Areas (TAs), particularly in dose/regimen selection and trial design. The goal is to drive the application of advanced quantitative approaches across all stages of drug development to enable optimal decision-making at the earliest time points and support efficient clinical development programs.

Problem Statement The QSTEPS scheduling process is highly structured but manual, complex, and time-intensive, requiring ~45 minutes per request due to multiple systems, strict conventions, and validation requirements.

Purdue undergraduate students will support workflow mapping, automation design, scheduling automation, agenda and documentation generation, and development of a simulated testing environment. Optional work may include building an intelligent assistant to support scheduling inquiries.
